The foundation of the Islamic religious belief is the belief in absolute monotheism (the Oneness of God). This means to believe that there is one Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe, and that nothing is divine or worthy of being worshipped except Him. To believe in the Oneness of God means much more than simply believing that there is “one God” rather than two, three or four. There are a lot of religions that lay claim to the belief in “one God” and the existence of one Creator and Sustainer of the whole universe, but actual monotheism is to believe only One True Deity is to be worshiped as the revelation He sent to His Messenger. Islam also spurns the use of all intercessors between God and man, and asserts that people draw close to God directly and allow for Him every manifestation of worship and devoutness. Muslims also believe that Almighty God is Most Compassionate, Most Beneficent and Most Merciful.
In the Qur’an, God teaches human beings were created to glorify and worship Him, and that the basis of all true worship is God-consciousness . All creatures of God worship Him naturally and only humans have free will to worship God or reject it. It’s a huge challenge but also a great honor. Since the teachings of Islam encompass all aspects of life and ethics, God-consciousness should be promoted in all matters of life. Islam makes it clear that all human acts are acts of worship if they are done only by God and according to His Divine Laws, and scriptures. As such devotion in Islam is not limited to religious rites, and for this reason is known as a “way of life”, rather than a religion. The teachings of Islam act as a balm for the human soul , and such qualities as humility, sincerity , patience and charity are encouraged. Additionally, Islam condemns pride and self-righteous character, since only God Almighty is the only judge of human integrity.
A common mistake is to argue that God cannot forgive His creatures directly. By hyperbolising the burden and penalty of sin and claim that God could not forgive humans right away, people are disdaining God’s Mercy. When they are certain that they can’t approach God directly, they turn to false gods or aids as heroes , political leaders, saviors, saints and angels. We frequently see people who worship, intercession prays or seek false deities which are not considered a “god”. They believe in One Supreme God, but also to pray and worship others just to get nearer to God. In Islam, there is a clear distinction between the Creator and the created. There is no equivocalness or mystery in relation to divinity: nothing that has been created should be worshiped for only God, the Creator, is worthy of worship. Some religious beliefs incorrectly conceive that God is part of His creation , and that has led people to believe that they can idolize anything made to reach the Creator.
